Nurse

This is just a little reminder that if your children are out sick or are going to be tardy, please call the CARE line so that we know they are safe. If you are going on vacation, not during a scheduled school vacation, please email me or the office, not just the teachers with the dates. We are here to make sure that your children stay healthy so that they can learn to their greatest potential. It is difficult to learn when there are other things going on in their lives, sickness, family issue or friend issues. If your child is sick in the morning please do not send them to school. Especially, at this time of year when they are coming into an enclosed environment with a lot of other children. And especially in the winter months when colds, stomach viruses and the flu are more prevalent. Please let the school nurses know if your child has a fever over 100.4 accompanied by a cough, sore throat, body aches and stuffy nose. If they have a fever over 100 they need to stay home until they have been fever free for 24 hours without taking any fever reducing medication (Tylenol or Advil).

If your child has vomiting and or diarrhea please keep them home. This is not the flu, but a gastrointestinal disease. If your child is sick with a cough and sore throat without a fever it is probably just a head cold or allergies.

If you have any questions or would like to talk with the nurse please feel free to call or stop by.

Another reminder, if your child will need cold medicine, allergy medicine or other over the counter medication during the school day please do not send it in with them to take on their own. Have them bring it to my office with a note from you giving permission for me to give it to them, students are not allowed to carry any medication around with them in school, it could be a potential health hazard. And as always medication must be in the original container. If it is sent in, in a baggie, then you will be called as I am not allowed to give it out.

Please make sure to fill out the emergency forms with any medications, allergies and medical concerns that your child has. This is for their safety, in case something should happen I would have an idea of what we might be dealing with. Also, feel free to call or email me with any concerns that you might have or changes in the health status during the year.
