STEAM Department Description:

 

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics unemployment in the applied science fields is 0% and the mean average annual salary hovers around $100,000. A number of specific careers within the fields of applied science have starting salaries in excess of $150,000 per year. Making these careers both secure and financially rewarding for those that have an interest in technology.

The STEAM department offers five unique courses. Three of the courses; Introduction To STEAM, Intermediate STEAM, and Engineering and Design are designed to introduce you to technology and applied science. The remaining two courses Manufacturing Processes, and Computer Aided Design (which requires Geometry as a prerequisite), are also technology based, and additionally are dual enrollment courses, offering college credit, (three and five credit hours respectively).

Four of these courses are hands-on STEAM courses, which give you a common sense approach to technology and its applications. The fifth course, Manufacturing Processes, is a more lecture-base course that focuses on the material properties of metals.

Since these are application-based courses, you will also find them in the program of studies, not only in Engineering Technologies, but also in several other pathways including Computer and Information Technology, Environmental Science, Healthcare and Medical Professions.
