What We've Done

Discussed implementing the School Climate Survey to students, parents and teachers to determine the social-emotional needs of students at Pelham Memorial School and to determine how to support parents and teachers.

Lynn Lyons, LICSW, from Concord, NH came to speak at PHS (for the district) on February 6 to speak to staff, families and the community. The presentation was called "The Gift of Anxiety and Depression Prevention: Skills We Can (and Should!) Be Teaching Our Children." Untreated anxiety in a child is one of the top predictors of depression in young adults. For those that work with anxious families, this comes as no surprise. In this presentation, Lynn focuses on how interrupt the most common anxiety and depression enhancing patterns–including reassurance, accommodation, avoidance, and three cognitive habits—and adopt instead a process-based “umbrella approach” that changes both the child and adults’ ingrained patterns of thinking and behaving.
