Dear Pelham Community,

The Pelham School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of William Furbush as its new Superintendent of Schools beginning July 1, 2018.

Mr. Furbush comes to us from SAU 16 in Exeter NH where he currently serves as an Assistant Superintendent. Unlike the Pelham School District, a one town, one board district, SAU 16 administers 7 districts and Mr. Furbush performed Superintendent-level duties in two of them, Brentwood and Newfields. Prior to that he has been a Principal, Assistant Principal, and classroom teacher in middle school. Mr. Furbush is also a veteran, having served as a non- commissioned officer in Iraq from 2003 to 2005.

As you may be aware, we started the rigorous search process in September with the selection of a search committee comprised of varied stakeholders for the district and community, 1st round interviews by this committee, followed by 2nd round interviews by the Board, on-site visits to the finalists’ current places of work, a full-day visit to our district where attendees could share their impressions, and finally, a vote by the School Board. The high quality of all the finalists made this a difficult decision taken after hours of discussion. The Board’s sincerest appreciation goes out to all who helped make this appointment come to fruition.

We are very fortunate to make this appointment this early in the school year and look forward to welcoming Mr. Furbush to the Pelham School District in July. In the meantime, the district will continue under the watchful leadership of Interim Superintendent Dr. Cox and as we get closer to July we anticipate she will bring him up to speed about current initiatives and other priorities. In the summer months, the Board will meet with him to set goals and objectives.

Again, we are very excited to be able to make this announcement and we feel confident that, under his leadership, the Pelham School District will come ever closer to achieving its mission of “inspiring success one mind at a time.”

With sincerest regards
Thomas Gellar
Chair, Pelham School Board
